ISTANBUL (2010 FIBA World Championship) – The countdown is on at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey with 12 exciting games to be played in four different cities on Saturday, the 28th of August.

Before the 24 teams go into battle, the Opening Ceremony will take place at the Sinan Erdem Arena in Istanbul.  Friday evening’s ceremony will be the only live event shown in full length free of charge.

2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (2010 WJHC), is the 2010 edition of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and will be hosted in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, from December 26, 2009 to January 5, 2010. This will be the second time Saskatoon has hosted the tournament, after hosting it in 1991.

The game schedule will consist of 31 games, created and approved by both the IIHF and the 10 competing nations:

Defending champion Novak Djokovic can be considered the man to beat at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals after concluding the regular ATP World Tour season with consecutive titles, but the 22-year-old Serbian downplayed his status as the ‘favourite’ during the media round tables Friday in London.

“It’s not for me to say if I’m favourite or not, considering the players who are participating in this tournament,” he said. “I don’t think any of us are big favourites because it’s the best eight players in the world, it’s very unpredictable. I think it’s going to be a very interesting tournament because it’s held for the first time in London, it’s in a new venue which no one has experienced before.”

Seven players will fight for two remaining places to the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals this week at the BNP Paribas Masters, the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Paris (Bercy) that marks the end of the regular season.

No. 7 Nikolay Davydenko and No. 8 Fernando Verdasco, semi-finalist last week in Valencia, are the clear frontrunners for the final spots in the elite eight-man singles field.

The five other contenders won’t find it easy to steal a berth away from Davydenko and Verdasco.

No. 9 Robin Soderling, No. 10 Fernando Gonzalez and No. 11 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all must at least reach the final to have a chance to qualify for the Finals. Meanwhile, No. 12 Radek Stepanek and No. 13 Marin Cilic need to win the title just to have a chance and will be eliminated should Verdasco wins his opening match in Paris.
